October Newsletter – Stan & Donna Scroggins

It has been two months since our first departure back to the Philippines was canceled.  Donna and I are doing our best to stay in contact with all our ministry partners in the Philippines and teaching”on-line” classes each week. We will keep everyone updated as to our status.  As soon as the door opens to return we are “out of here“.  Pray with us that it will not be too long.

The Philippines continues to keep in place restrictions on foreigners entering the country. Bacolod and Talisay City, where we live, just finished a two week lock down and curfew. However, there still remains a restriction of travel between islands to keep the spread of the virus to a minimum.

Dos Hermanas is a small village west of Talisay City.  Dos Hermanas means “Two Sisters”.  Pastor Chris Rojo is the pastor of Dos Hermanas Baptist Church, the mother church of our Ahgu mission.  David Perez (the young man in the blue shirt) is a BMA Bible College student who is assigned as weekend worker with Dos Hermanas church.

While in a down town Little Rock, Arkansas restaurant Donna and I ran into these new and old friends. Angela Rice (the OLD friend), works for BMAA Missions, Emily Brantley, Angela’s daughter (She and husband Tyler will be new missionaries in Argentina), and Angela’s mom.

Thanks CCS for the invitation to speak to your three chapel services.  It was lots of fun.  Donna taught at CCS for 17 years while we lived in Magnolia, Arkansas.

Covid had prevented an earlier appointment with Northview Baptist in North Little Rock, Arkansas.  We enjoyed getting to be with them and have lunch with great friends Bill and Anita Thornton.

Thanks Pastor Cantrell for your Northview hospitality.  James Ray Raines is Pastor Emeritus at Northview.  I served with Bro. Raines at Immanuel Baptist Church (Now Oasis Camden, Arkansas) back in the 1980’s.

Worship with Pastor Charles Gaskin and Calvary Baptist Church Jacksonville, Texas on September 6th.

Worshiped with Afton Grove Baptist Church and Pastor David and Rosemary September 20th.  Thanks for the hospitality and invitation to preached Sunday night.

Worship at Southgate Baptist Church Moore, Oklahoma, September 27. Thanks Doug for the invitation and thanks Deanne for the “round up”.  Doug and I have been friends since our youth director days in the 1970’s.

The Fall semester has begun at the Bible College.  How we wish we could be there with them, but we are teaching our classes on line.  That means a class that begins at 8:00 AM in the Philippines begins at 7:00 PM the night before here in the United States.  Donna is teaching typing and research and I am teaching Worship Leadership and Apologetics.

Help us build a room in memory or in honor of a loved one. Each room cost $10,000 to build.

Filipino boys catch and fight (to the death) spiders. The Philippines has the longest Christmas celebration, beginning in September going through December.

With all our furlough appointments fulfilled we are now sitting, waiting, praying, for something to do,  Give us a call if we can assist you in any way, preaching, teaching, speaking, or visiting a WMA, Brotherhood, GMA, or Galilean group, even a civic group.

Since we are delayed returning to the Philippines, please consider inviting us to learn more about missions in Asia and the Philippines.

STATUS ON OUR RETURN TO THE PHILIPPINES
Right now nothing has changed. The government of the Philippines is being extremely cautious to prevent the pandemic spreading to unmanageable levels.

Happy birthday to Donna, September 21.

Stan and I taught our first classes on line this week and our first thoughts are “we miss our beloved students so much.”

Finally, we get to welcome fellow missionaries Doug and Diane Lee and Sam and Dawn Freeman home for their furloughs.

Our work is completely focused on making sure the Gospel is taught in our weekly home Bible study, the sending of the Gospel to Southeast Asian countries, the training of pastors and missionaries at the Bible College and church planting in the Philippines and  all over Southeast Asia.  Would you help us?  $1,000.00 a year goes a long way here, helping us train church planters, send missionaries and train students.  Click on the donate button below, locate the Scroggins/Philippine fund and prayerfully consider contributing to help us. We love you all.

Please Pray For:
