Filipinos love a celebration, and after 2 years of cancellations due to co-vid, who can blame them for going all out for this year’s Mascara 2022 Celebration.
EVERYWHERE YOU GO ARE MASK, DANCE, PARADE, SINGING, FOOD, AND DISPLAY COMPETITIONS. AND BACOLOD IS FILLED WITH VISITORS FROM ALL OVER THE PHILIPPINES AND THE WORLD.
School has been going great at the Academy. In November we will proceed to full week classes as normalization continues here. Two years of closed schools is exhibited in teachers expressing how behind the students are in all subjects and even in their discipline and general politeness.
It is Teacher Appreciation Week and our students simple out did themselves honoring all of our teaching staff. We’ve finished mid-terms and now its on to the count down to finals.
We are so thankful for our partnership with the BMAA Theological Seminary which helped us finish class work with four of our teachers for degrees in Pastoral Theology.
I taught History and Philosophy of Christian Education in April and May. Dr. Philip Attebery arrived in June and conducted two classes; one in Personal Evangelism and another on World Religions. Then in June and July Dr. Thom South arrived to teach four classes: Survey of Baptist History, General Church History and Old Testament 1 and Old Testament 2. In September and October I finished up the needs of our four faculty members teaching Systematic Theology 1.
Steve Abalos, Nick Gomez, Ricky Giacana and Joemel Samsom completed all class work. These four will focus on their exit exams to be completed by March in time for April graduation.
What started as an effort to get four teachers accredited degrees ended up with over 20 students participating in master level classes over the past seven months. Plans are in the works to help these students finish as well.

On October 23, Donna and I left for Israel to Join friends from First Baptist Church Magnolia, Arkansas on a tour of the Holy Land. Here are just a few of the sights we saw.
Take a closer look at the two center pictures. This is the city of Bet-She’an. There has been cities here for over 5000 years. With 18 different cities built on top of each other over the millennia. This city is mentioned in 1 Samuel 31 when Saul and three of his sons where killed. The Philistines took their bodies and hung them on the city wall as trophies. Then the men of the Israelite army snuck in by night and reclaimed their king and his sons bodies. What is interesting is that close to 3000 years later, in this very city, there is a church. On the right is the door into the church, on the left is a picture of an engraved cross on the gate indicating this was a church. At this time the city had pagan, temples, a synagogue and church. Below is what most believe to be a baptistry, not located in the church but at the nearby public baths.
Because of the density of the salt and minerals in the Dead Sea one can not sink.

We are off to Israel. I traveled here back in the 1980’s when I was a young Music and Youth Pastor as Immanuel Baptist Church in Camden, Arkansas. Lots of new discoveries and it has been fun to meet up with friends from First Baptist Magnolia, Arkansas, Rison, Arkansas and North Alabama.

This is my first time to visit Israel and it has been such a great experience and we haven’t even traveled to Jerusalem yet. So, expect more reporting of our trip next month. Once we get back to the Philippines it will be time for our annual health check-ups in Manila. Lots of RED-TAPE.
Our work is completely focused on making sure the Gospel is taught in our weekly home Bible study, the sending of the Gospel to Southeast Asian countries, the training of pastors and missionaries at the Bible College and church planting in the Philippines and all over Southeast Asia. Would you help us? $1,000.00 a year goes a long way here, helping us train church planters, send missionaries and train students. Click on the donate button below, locate the Scroggins/Philippine fund and prayerfully consider contributing to help us. We love you all.
